The results of the international competition for urban design of Renmin Road commercial block in Longhua's super commercial area have been announced, sznews.com reported yesterday.

Expert evaluation opinion has been taken into account by authorities during the competition, the report said.

The top three prizes went to design plans submitted by teams led by Urban Planning & Design Institute of Shenzhen, MLA+ and AUBE, respectively.

Longhua super commercial area, one of the district’s six key areas, is an important node on Shenzhen’s central development axis, with strong future development potential.

The district government has put forward the goal of building the super commercial area, which spans over 2 million square meters, into a municipal core commercial area and a world-class consumer experience center.

The first prize winner’s design plan proposes three types of urban characteristic spaces representing different spatial governance modes, which aims to increase the commercial area’s attractiveness and accessibility while also unleashing economic vitality.

After prequalification Oct. 29, 2021, six internationally renowned top design institutions (teams) were selected from 104 applicants from around the world.

An evaluation meeting with experts in urban planning, architectural design, transportation planning and industrial planning was held March 28 this year to deliberate over the finalists’ design plans.
